Introduction
Revd Dr Karl Benson
Hello, I’m Karl. I have a diverse background that spans roles such as Soldier, Scientist, Ordained Church Minister, Hospital Chaplain, and Army Chaplain. These roles have allowed me to accompany people through life’s complexities, from crises on military deployment to moments of profound spiritual questioning in healthcare settings.
I am a fully qualified Pastoral Supervisor, holding a diploma from the Institute of Pastoral Counselling and Supervision (IPCS) and membership of the Association for Pastoral Supervision and Education (APSE). I've had the privilege of supervising Church Ministers, Army Chaplains, Hospital Chaplains, and University Chaplains — each carrying their own particular weight of calling, and each teaching me something further about what it means to walk alongside another person well.
I also trained as a Spiritual Director and Retreat Guide at St Beuno’s Jesuit Spirituality Centre, developing skills in guiding personal reflection grounded in Ignatian traditions. This informs my approach to supervision: attentive, supportive, and tailored to each person’s journey.
I believe in the power of one-on-one spaces where people can freely share their longings, desires, confusions, doubts, and crises of faith, without fear of judgment. I am dedicated to helping those who are motivated to help themselves—people seeking to integrate their inner lives with their outward practices for renewed purpose, wellbeing, and growth.
If you’re interested in pastoral supervision, contact me, I’d love to explore this with you.
